Jazz Improvisation? How?

As a jazz pianist and singer, I am often asked about how people just ‘make things up’ in jazz – and how they can start to learn to do the same.
Most people don’t realise that jazz improvisation is actually based on a fairly easy-to-understand set of principles that can actually be learnt… So I have decided to write a set of e-Books to try and make it more accessible to those who would like to learn more.
The principles are also very important for other instrumentalists as well as for pianists. Dizzy Gillespie – the great Beebop trumpeter – was often heard saying how jazz players should use the piano to understand the framework of improvisation.
So if you are an aspiring jazz pianist – or other instrumentalist – who wants to know which end of an improvisation is which, do have a browse! They are free to download by members (learn more about the benefits of becoming a member)
- “A Brief Intro to Impro” - A general introduction to Jazz Improvisation for all jazz beginners.
- “Learning the Framework of Jazz Improvisation” – Part 1 – The first in a series to help aspiring jazz musicians develop a ‘musical framework’ for their jazz improvisations.
